The Deathray Davies
The Kick and the Snare (Glurp Records)

By: Alex Steininger

On their latest full-length, Dallas, Texas-based fuzzy pop band The Deathray Davies' deliver a gleaming gem with The Kick and the Snare, their fifth full-length, and second for Austin, Texas-based indie Glurp Records.

Much like other Deathray Davies' albums, The Kick and the Snare offers you delicious, juicy pop nuggets wrapped in buzzing, fuzzy, rock 'n' roll shells. The result are songs like the jangle-y, power-pop of "Release The Squid (Box 6)", the indie-rock of "Clock In Now", and the Southern-rock influenced pop-rock of "A Calendar Crime".

If you're looking for a band that definitely can rock, but doesn't beat you down with loud guitars, knows who to treat a jangle-y song, and just sounds fun, this is your ticket. I'll give it an A-.
