The Best Of Morphine: 1992-1995 (Rykodisc)

By: Alex Steininger

Lacking good liner notes, though possessing an enhanced video for "Shame" (taken from a live Atlanta TV show). And including three previously unreleased tracks ("Jack and Tina", "Pretty Face", and "Sexy Christmas Baby Mine"), Morphine's Best of 1992-1995 covers their first Ryko years: Good, Cure for Pain, and Yes (and one from B-Sides and Otherwise, "Shame"). Though not a career spanning set, it does give you the best of their early, pre-Dreamworks days, and offer a lot of their jazz-infused, blues-raised, sultry pop sound. Though better liner notes would have been nice (and expected), it's still a must for fans. I'll give it a B-.
