Coldplay
A Rush Of Blood To The Head (Parlophone/EMI)

By: Alex Steininger

With some of the most beautiful pop songs as of late, Coldplay stands as forerunners of Brit-pop, crafting songs that expand beyond the limited tag, with each one bathing in eloquent melodies and warm, relaxing instrumentation. Filling the air with everything that is good about pop, Coldplay reminds us that the trick is not just creating memorable hooks, but making them stick. Structuring them in a way that you want them to linger in your conscious as you absorb them before fully realizing their impact. With A Rush of Blood To The Head, Coldplay does just that, reaching out with songs that make the blood rush to your head, causing you to be lightheaded as you give in to the creations and allow them to control you for the duration. I'll give this an A.
