Neil Aline
Chez (Wave Music)

By: Cortney Harding

I became a technophile not because I enjoyed putting on baggy pants and taking GHB, but because I could put it on in the background while I studied or worked and I could concentrate. So if I refer to a particular album as "wallpaper music," it's a compliment. Neil Aline's "Chez" is my latest wallpaper album at work, and plays nicely in the background while I wheel and deal to make sure Bev Stein is the next Governor of Oregon (the primary is May 21st. Vote!). Anyway, Aline's record isn't much of a club record; it seems to laid back and relaxed. It would, however, make the perfect after party CD. He crosses genres and remixes artists from all over the world while not making the mix sound too jumpy. And it was recorded live at the uber-trendy Centro-Fly in New York City, so you can bet B-grade supermodels and the Hilton sisters had a blast dancing to it.
