Kittie
Oracle (Artemis Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Who said rock was a boy's club? And who said there was never a good female metal band? Well, until I heard Kittie a few years back, I probably said there was no such thing as a good female metal band, at least not that I was aware of. And as much as I want to dislike Kittie for being so young, they're just too damn good at what they do. They create throaty, straight-from-the-gut bloody metal music for metal fans. The blood squirting death metal-esque vocals, the tremendous fury they put in every song, and the momentum that never looses gas throughout, all make this one damn fine metal record. If you doubted Kittie on their debut, pay attention, because Oracle cements them firmly as one of the best new metal bands. They're even able to create genuine melodic metal, which is hard to come by with testosterone the only thing metal seems to trade in these days. I'll give this an A.
