The Amazing Royal Crowns
The Amazing Royal Crowns (Soundproof Records/Monolyth Entertainment)

By: Alex Steininger

The Amazing Royal Crowns would best be described as a rockabilly band with punk rock running through their veins. That would describe their swingin', powerful brand of rockabilly. And on their self-titled debut they serve up fourteen songs sure to make you swing, sway, and have a good time.

Start your day right with "Shiverin In the Corner." The pace and energy are tremendous. The vocals are strong and very apparent. From screams to down right singing they can handle any duty pushed upon them. The guitar, bass, and drums are as tight as can be and pull everything together eloquently. "Minute With The Maker" is another song that is nothing short of a great time. The vocals are ripe and ready to sing into your ear, while the guitar is soft and keeps the pace steadily. The drums prance in the background, keeping time nicely. The bass is the glue here, and "glues" everything together. Everything seems nicely composed and well done. "Gretschy" is another bouncy rockabilly tune that also combines some swing into the mix. The guitar is hot like fire, and will make you dance! Matter of fact, every track on this CD is bouncy and creates the perfect scenario for a great time and a hot dance floor. "Fireball Stomp," "King of the Joint," "Wreckin Machine," and "Swimming In Drinks" are all hot tracks that will burn holes in your shoes while your dancing. Fourteen magical tracks, and you'll enjoy everyone.

This four piece from Rhode Island takes Rockabilly and updates it for the 90's, and then gives it a good kick in the ass with some punk rock mayhem. Whether you want to drink a few while listening to some good music, or want to create the perfect mood for a romantic night with the loved one, full of dancing and fun, this is the disc for you. It deserves an A-.
