Michael Meanwhile
Coming Quietly (self-released)

By: Christopher Margolin

If John Mayer suddenly decided that he was a true songwriter - rather than another polished pop sensation whose now teaming up with Kanye West and whoever else has the next big radio shimmer - he would probably be close to Michael Sheridan. It's been a while since I've heard a CD that actually shines. Back in the days when Toad the Wet Sprocket and R.E.M. were household names, this CD would have been sitting right at the top of the pile. Unfortunately, those days are gone and a great CD such as Coming Quietly, is pushed into the background. The simplicity and ease of this CD is exactly what is so refreshing about Sheridan. As Sheridan says in "Riot," "wish we could start a riot." I wish we could somehow infuse more songwriting into our radio stations; if we could, we may come up with Michael Meanwhile. Until then, we must love our independent artists and pick up a copy of Coming Quietly, by Michael Meanwhile.
