Alex Walsh
Light Another Candle (Self-released)

By: Alex Steininger

Slightly psychedelic at times, and just really fuzzy bar rock during other moments, Alex Walsh tries to diversify while staying within the boundaries of the Americana-rock realm on Light Another Candle. When he's more straight ahead, such as on the album opener "Purple Apple Gum", a catchy, steady rocker, or the rustic "You'll Come Back To Me" (enough though the distorted guitars bog the song down too much), he's a lot better than when he tries to spice things up. Such as with "Lusty Lady", a wanna-be dirty bar-rocker. Still the album has its moments and charms, but is too inconsistent and unfocused to leave a dent. I'll give it a C-.
