Alex Lloyd
Watching Angels Mend (Nettwerk America)

By: Alex Steininger

Fleshed out pop songs written around an acoustic guitar, Alex Lloyd proves the singer-songwriter can write affecting pop songs with a guitar, fill the sound out, and come out with something vibrant and colorful, something complete. While others attempt the same thing, either over producing their songs to the cost of emotion, or going overboard and drowning in excess, Lloyd knows when enough is enough. He uses strings and keyboards to bring to life a melody, but lets it rest when his voice and the standard bass, drums, guitar set-up will do. The songs are slightly melancholic at times, if only because of Lloyd's plaintive voice, but with the uplifting melodies and sweeping hooks boosting him up, the melancholy quickly becomes promise and hope. I'll give this an A-.
