Hypocrisy
10 Years of Chaos and Confusion (Nuclear Blast)

By: Jeb Branin

This is a "greatest hits" package from HYPOCRISY with many of the included classics being re-recorded. Considering the inconsistency of the HYPOCRISY back catalogue it shouldn't come as a surprise that this album is also pretty inconsistent. When HYPOCRISY are playing in-your-face death metal with all the requisite blood and sweat there are few bands who can equal them. However, when they are trying to be "progressive" and dink around with third-rate gothic "atmosphere" they come across as a complete sham - A band-wagon-jumping band who can do nothing more than mimic legends like THE SWANS. I guess you could say the title of this album is perfect. They have many moments of pure metal "chaos" but they also have moments when their music is "confused" and boring.15
