The Busy Signals
Pretend Hits (Sugar Free Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Lo-fi indie pop with soul, The Busy Signals deliver unforgettable hooks alongside samples and drum machine backbeats. The outcome is layered, homespun pop art in the most imaginative sense, using oft-quirky beats and melodies to drag you in, but sticking with traditional pop format to hold you in. Rough around the edges, but beautiful to the core, The Busy Signals' manage to create significantly different indie pop that stretches the boundaries of the sub-genre but doesn't stray too far off base to make you lose interest. I'll give this an A+.
