The Gone Orchestra
No Price Too High (The Gone Orchestra)

By: Jeb Branin

Rainforest Records never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I know what to expect from them they throw me a curve. I love it. I don't think that THE GONE ORCHESTRA are even officially on Rainforest but I do know they are being "accommodated" by them. But that is neither here nor there. What is here and there and every-friggin'-where is this band. Most of the time they play improvisational freeform jazz with a fairly even mix of impressionistic noise and experimental virtuosity. On rarer occasions, my fav being "Miss Brown To You", they sound like a classy supper club band from a bygone era, although they definitely add progressive flavorings. If you love jazz you are definitely going to love this disc (the Ellington cover is superb!) and if you don't love jazz you need to pull your head out and pick this up anyway.
