Me'Shell Ndegeocello
Peace Beyond Passion (Reprise Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Me'Shell is back with her latest album, "Peace Beyond Passion." The funk/soul/rock influenced bassist scores with yet another big hit.

The CD starts off in a very mellow mood. The track is called "The Womb." Next up is "The Way." A soulful tune with some funk thrown in. Some good bass and an upbeat tempo are included. Track three starts off with the lyrics "All I wanted is a n**ger who would be true." I listened to the lyrics several times, and tried to come up with an explanation, but only found answers. I wonder why she used the term. Track four is very mellow. It starts off with some guitar and drums while Me'Shell is talking to the beat. Then after about a minute, she starts to sing. A nice track to relax too. Sit back, talk off your shoes, and enjoy! Three tracks go by before we come to my favorite track on the CD, "Who Is He And What Is He To You." Great bass and drums with a little guitar start off the song. All through the song you have some soul meets rock bass, and the beat is very up-tempo and not as mellow as some of the other tracks. Three more tracks go by before we come to the last track on the CD, "Make Me Wanna Holler." Once again, on this track Me'Shell proves she is one of the best bassists out there today!

I feel "Peace Beyond Passion," is a great CD, and for anyone that is a fan of Me'Shell Ndegeocello, or are into soul, funk, and rock I recommend picking up this CD. She is full of talent. I would have to give this CD an A.
