Systems Officer (Ace Fu)

 Pinback's Zack Smith steps out onto his own with his debut solo album, Systems Officer, for which he plays (and sings) everything on the record. A bit emo, and reminiscent of Pinback, the pop-charged, indie-rock anthems are driven by the rhythm section, while Smith's voice helps the music further its quirky edge. Subtle, but still agitated, it offers up enough contrast to startle you and make you stand attentively throughout the duration. I'll give it a B-.
