Days of Rising Doom - The Metal Opera (The End)

By: Mike SOS

When you hear the term rock opera, what kind of expectations come to mind? Perhaps something along the lines of The Who's Tommy? Or maybe something a little less rock? Well, change that perception, as this project boldly goes where no rock opera has gone before by making the union between opera and rock so beautiful. Aina is the name of this ambitious project, and after a listen, you too will wonder why this isn't on Broadway yet, as it encapsulates all of the traits of any major production, only with a hard rock backbone. Contributors to this masterpiece include Glenn Hughes, Derek Sherinian, and Michael Kiske, not to mention the countless international metal musicians that comprise the voices and instrumentations. For those in fear that this rock opera may be too soft, just listen to the power metal that cascades from tracks like "Silver Maiden" for evidence that there's no shortage of rock in this brilliant project. Days of Rising Doom also comes in a special package, which includes a DVD and a narrative of the storyline behind the opera, which may be helpful for those who may easily get lost in the confusion. AINA is a rock opera chock full of soul and passion, and should appeal to metalheads and fans of musical theater alike.
