Chris Lee
Cool Rock (Misra Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Chris Lee, formerly of the alt-country band the Pine State Boys and folk/improv outfit Mishagas, releases his third solo record, and second for NY-based Misra Records. A sweet, endearing collection of heartfelt penned tunes about love, life, and living, Cool Rock is lead by Lee's relaxed, slightly soulful, but more meditative voice, backed by his ability to craft pop-rock melodies that are not in-your-face, nor are they passive. They rock enough to get you moving, but are subtle enough to not over do it. And, you always find yourself singing along, as Lee works you from all angles: lyrics, beats, and melodies. There are enough to go around on Cool Rock, Lee's strongest release to date. I'll give it a B.
