Dan Bern & the IJBC
Fleeting Days (Messenger Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Fleeting Days, the sixth full-length from Iowa native Dan Bern and his band, The IJBC, is a tribute to Bob Dylan (less than on his previous releases) and Elvis Costello (more so than on his previous titles). Still throwing up the dust of roots-rock, however, Bern and company are able to take the folk & blues influences of Dylan, the pop sensibilities of Costello, and turn it into a joy-riding Americana cruise. Fleeting Days has its all-out rock moments, some humor, and a lot of good rhythms that make you want to stomp your feet and run alongside the band as the songs drive by. I'll give it a B.
