Aubrey Haynie
The Bluegrass Fiddle Album (Sugar Hill Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Master fiddler Aubrey Haynie's The Bluegrass Fiddle Album takes an old school approach, whether he's penning originals, taking on traditional numbers, or covering others (most notably several Kenny Baker covers and an Arthur Smith tune). With legends Tony Rice on guitar and Sam Bush on mandolin, as well as Barry Bales on bass and David Talbot on banjo, Haynie's hot-to-trot fiddle pays homage and pays its dues, helping to ensure the vitality and longevity of bluegrass. Having fun in the process, Haynie and his band serve up sweet instrumental bluegrass that makes you want to swing and stomp your feet; highly engaging, highly danceable songs that transcend love with every note. I'll give it a B+.
