George Duke
Face The Music (BPM)

By: Alex Steininger

George Duke's Face The Music, with its funk, jazz, soul, and R&B, is the perfect record to play during dinner. To blast while you're driving down the freeway in the rain. Or to put on the stereo while you wind down from a night of partying (or to keep the party going). The grooves are intoxicating, the soul able to make you melt, and the funk, well, it lays down irresistible beats that you'll want to dance with. And let's not forget the smoky jazz, the dark, rich, velvety touch that gives the songs their smooth feeling. The additional of vocals help further the instrumentation's groove-laden feel, though they're mere dressing. The piano as the centerpiece, filled out by drums, bass, and horns are the real attractions here. I'll give it a B.
