The Vines
Highly Evolved [single] (Heavenly Recordings)

By: Alex Steininger

The Highly Evolved single, an import from Holland, contains two tracks from Australia's The Vines. They're the latest buzz band in Europe and the U.S., known for their charged, sing-along garage rock, as demonstrated on the title track (which can also be found on their debut full-length of the same name, available in the U.S. on Capitol records). Track two, "Sun Child", is equally impressive, as the band offers up a lo-fi recorded soft song that is equally melodic and addictive as its more rocking counterpart. For only two songs, it's good, as it definitely leaves you wanting more. Sadly, it leaves you wanting too much more, making it nice for collectors, but bad for fans who want to actually hear music for more than five minutes before either needing to change the disc or hit the repeat button. I'll give it a C.
