Paint It Black - A Reggae Tribute to The Rolling Stones (Madacy Entertainment)

By: Alex Steininger

To hear "Start Me Up" and "Wild Horses" in the reggae format is both appalling and fun. A melodic rocker like "Start Me Up" becomes a danceable, Caribbean-flavored party song whereas a tender ballad like "Wild Horses" loses everything it is built upon and becomes yet another happy-go-lucky dance song. However, a pop-laden song like "Satisfaction" translates nicely, especially the chorus. "Time Is On My Side" and "Under My Thumb" are two more examples of serious songs becoming ruined while being translated into something else, regardless of how fresh and new the perspective is on the songs. I'll give it a C.
