Third Wave (Double Agent Records)

After a nine-year hiatus Stephen Lawrie's The Telescopes, for which he writes, arranges and produces, performing all the tracks with a variety of friends and like-minded musicians, have released their third studio full-length, a masterpiece worth the wait. An engaging mixture of smoky club jazz, electronica, pop, and all things indie rock, Third Wave, their new record, delivers mind-blowing indie-pop songs that stretch and travel, going all over the map, but manage to always sound central and focused. If music was wine, the aging process worked, with The Telescopes giving you what you expect. Though, you walk away asking yourself if you were really expecting that if they were playing a trick on you. No matter how you cut it though, Third Wave will play with your mind, but deliver something magical. I'll give it an A-.
