Keepsake
Black Dress In A B Movie (Fearless Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Keepsake writes pop-punk songs with a sense of melodic rock and a hardcore upbringing in mind, keeping things heavy and loud, but not to the point of drowning out the melody. Making an attempt to write lyrics that will appeal to more than the casual listener, the band manages to create pop-punk songs that break through the tiresome genre as they get you singing along and offer up songs about more than girls and bad relationships. And though Keepsake isn't failsafe, with a few of their numbers sounding like the previous song, and a few other songs lacking in any substance, for the most part they're able to rise above the waters they wade in and write some decent songs. I'll give this a C+.
