After leaving Metallica, bassist Jason Newsted hooked up with two kids: Dylan Donkin and Brian Sagrafena. The outcome is something you wouldn't expect from the former Metallica bassist. This self-titled debut is a mixture of pop, low-key rhythms, funk, and mid-tempo rock. Instead of cranking up the amps and screaming, they focus on the melody (most of the time) as they seem to be having a lot of fun creating party music. And though a lot of times it sounds weak and tired, the album has moments like the beginning of "SuckerPunch" (with a guest appearance from Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett), a delightfully atmospheric pop song ruined by a watered-down hard rock chorus. I'll give this a C-.
