Skating Club
Skating Club (Wishing Tree Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Skating Club's self-titled full-length is a slow to moderate tempo indie pop record, led by the strumming of an electric guitar. Soft, but still present enough to be the dominant instrument, the electric guitar provides the perfect accompaniment for the slightly monotone voice, as the band offers up the subtle ticking of bass and drums. The songs are not instantly accessible. They're not loaded with pop, nor do they pretend to be. These are the types of songs you have to listen to several times over before you start to get into them. And when you do, they grow on you, going from generic, unmemorable songs to ones you like to listen to and try and relate with. I'll give this a B-.
