In My Eyes
Nothing To Hide (Revelation Records)

By: Jeb Branin

Time machine core ladies and gents. This is a flashback to all that was cool about the straight edge scene in the late eighties. During this genre's heyday bands that sounded like this were saturating the hardcore scene and even the most ravenous fans found themselves deluged with countless variations on a somewhat limited theme. In 2000, however, the straight edge norm has evolved and mutated to such an extent that bands like IN MY EYES are the exception instead of the rule. For me all that really matters is the quality of the music and whether or not I find it appealing. Well... I lived and breathed this stuff ten plus years ago and I still find that it gets my blood pumping. During my college years bands like YOT, BOLD, INSIGHT and INSTED never left my stereo and IN MY EYES has a comparable appeal. Rage and turbulent passion abound in the music but everything is tempered by a (usually) positive outlook that still manages to be forward looking in spite of the retro sound of the band. I expect this to be a standout release for Revelation.
