Mogwai
Mogwai EP+2 (Matador Records)

By: Alex Steininger

On their new EP, containing two bonus tracks (taken from their controversial import-only No Education = No Future: Fuck the Curfew EP), Mogwai delivers one of the most beautiful recordings of the late nineties/early millennium.

All six cuts on this album are stunning, captivating, and purely beautiful. They are breezy and easy going, sultry, relaxed, paralyzing, as well as sunny and bright. "Stanley Kubrick" sails on the ocean with light ripples in the waters around it, while "Christmas Song" is contemplative and as fresh as the morning air. "Burn Girl Prom Queen," though a vicious title, is long and drawn out, but still warming and vibrant.

If a Crayola box were put to music, this would be it. The colors, shapes, and sounds of the world meld into a big melting pot, producing a nourished output sure to please. I'll give it a B.
