Super Hi Five
Super Hi Five 7" (Creep Records)

By: Jeb Branin

I guess I don't really know but I don't think this band is from D.C. I'm thinking they are from the Philly area, which I guess is close enough to D.C. that the wind could have carried some sort of D.C. punk microorganism to infect the members of SUPER HI FIVE. This is totally reminiscent of the sound that our nation's "crap"ital was churning out in the late eighties and early nineties, when the music from that area was still kickin' serious ass on just about every other scene in the nation. Fast and precise is the name of the game. Definitely still hardcore at its heart but you can hear a post hc flavor around the edges that is not enough to turn it into some sort of watered down emo but instead gives it an added dimension and focus that makes it appealing even to fans who normally go for something more extreme. I only wish the record was longer.
